Here are the some information regarding the festival of Ganesh chaturthi, the festival of God's son "Ganesha".
Ganesh chaturthi is also called as Vinayaka Chavithi. the celebration of this festival running for 10 days of Bhadra month as per the Hindu calender, which comes in the middle of august to september.
It proves the birthday of God's son Ganesha, whose head looks like elephant's head.
Lord Ganesha known as the God of sense, resources and knowledge. hindu people in india mostly starting their any important work by firstly remebering lord Ganesha and seek his blessing for good complition of work.

Ganesha is the son of Lord Parvati and Shiva. there are different types of stories behind his birth, but we have to know about the main story.
Maa Parvati was created the Lord Ganesha to guard herself in the absence of her husband Lord Shiva. 
she gave ganesha a task to guiding area around her bathroom while she took a bath.
meanwhile, shiva returned at home and he looks ganesha, who didn't know who Shiva was, and he stopped him.
by that Shiva was angered and he cut off Ganesha's head after a bickering between the two.
maa parvati was angered when she know about that, so, lord shiva, promised to maa parvati to get Ganesha back to life.
the devas were sent to find for a child's head facing, but they could only find an elephant's head. by that lord shiva fixed the elephant's head on the child's body, and Ganesha was born.
